First day on my placement
Today I had my first day at placement. I left this morning along with 3 other girls and took a bus to the disabled programme. We were taken inside and straight into the meditation room where we meditated and the nun talked to us about material items and true happiness;. She made us understand that we are all here to share our love and pass our love onto other people. She then divided us into different groups and I was taken to the goodness group where it was just me and another phillapino lady who ran the class. The goodness group is 20 woman around 30-40 who are highly disabled and can't really speak. Some are blind and can speak well and most a disabled can't put together many words. Today's class was grooming which they do every second week where they are taught about taking care of there skin. Because the woman are quite old zlothough they look no older than 13 we showed the, to wash there hands and face. Afterwards they moisterised there face then we put oil in there and out lipstick eye show and some foundation on there faces.the girls loved it!!! After wards it was feeding time where all the kids went into the hall where we fed them lunch. Most kids needed feeding because A lot of them are highly disabled that they cannot use there hands. This part was hard. The way the kids ate and drooled and peed and dropped all there food all over themselves was hard to watch. Lunch took a whole because they all ate there food very slowly. The day at the disabled orphanage was solo rewarding but the feeding at lunch time was too much for me I think. At midday me another 2 girls left the disabled and took a 25 minute bus ride up into the hills to the babie orphanage. The place was surprisingly clean and nice compared to the disabled orphanage. We walked in and there was a toom with 15 babies sitting up there cots waiting to be picked up. The very first babie at the door when we walked in was crying so I picked him up instantly and he didn't let go of me till we left the orphanage 3 hours later. The babies at the orphanage have no mothers so the woman who work at the orphanage have to take care of all the babies. The babies are needed for adoption but no one has adopted in the last two years they have had the orphanage running. It's so sad that these babies when they get older will just move though to the toddler orphanage and then again to another orphanage as they get older. The first thing we did when we arrived was take all the babies out of the cots and lay they on a big mat on the floor which was full of toys. I have never seen that many babies all together at once it was so cute! All the babies are between 6 weeks old to 10 months so all they was is someone to hold them. We gave each of them a bottle changed there diapers and then just played with them. My babie would scream and yell as soon as I put him down with the rest so I had him in my arms the whole time. Eventually after a couple of hours it was about time that we had to leave and he finally fell asleep on my chest so I put him in my cot and we left. It was so sad leaving them all:( knowing that there 15 babies here all with out mothers and in need of being adopted it makes me want to adopt in the future that much more!
